Teaching

On an instrument like guitar it is very important to be aware of what a student wants to get out of the instrument. It might be that it will just be a hobby and they want to learn a few songs or it might be a dream of playing Wembley. The syllabus is tailored for the end goal that each student wants.

I can teach towards Rockschool exams or offer a much more relaxed approach ideal for people just wanting to pick up basic guitar skills.

A full syllabus would eventually take in many skills, including:

  • tab reading
  • sight reading
  • advanced rock techniques
  • improvisation
  • use of effects
  • much, much more…
  • correct posture and how to avoid injury

The number one thing that will get you to improve is having the right teacher. You should try a number of teachers until you find the one you are most happy with. I insist on all potential students taking a free half hour introduction/consultation.
